IRS or Internal Revenue Service is the revenue service of the Federal Government of the United States of America. IRS comes under the Department of Treasury and is under the control of Commissioner of Internal Revenue.
The duty of IRS is to:
- Collect Taxes: Collect taxes and makes sure that both citizens and corporates are paying their taxes.
- Enforce and Administer Tax Laws: Make sure that the tax laws are enforced in the country by auditing the taxpayers or conducting investigations against individuals or business that seem to be involved in some kind of fraudulent activity.
- Assist taxpayers: Help the tax payers with the problem and issues that they face and also help them to understand and comply with the tax laws.
In addition it also conducts criminal investigations and oversees tax-exempt organizations and qualified retirement plans. It makes sure that the federal government is able to fund essential programs and services.
